The Challenge.

My sister Devri is about the only person who could convince Pete to do this. I made up my mind a long time ago not to push and to just let him do what he was going to do. He has been going to church with me since we moved in with my parents barring a few weeks when he really wasn't feeling well. Anyway, Devri challenged him to race her reading the Book of Mormon. I was suprised when after some thought he agreed. We have been looking for a Replica of the 1833 edition. It was the first edition released. He is hoping that will make it more like a book for him. I am happy to help him look for one since I wouldn't mind a copy myself.

I told him not to do this for me and to make sure he was serious about it if he were to do it. We haven't started yet since we haven't found the copy he wants, but we will start soon. We are in Salt Lake for a check up and plan to search the Deseret Book Stores in the area.

Maybe I should take this opportunity to read again on my own, I know I will read some with him. Anyone have any good recomendations for books that might help?

Of course Devri would, lol. It is true that she would be the only one he would do it for. You should read the Immortal Instruments books that I let Mom borrow. Also a good series to read are all the Ender's books by Orson Scott Card. They are awesome. They are Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, Children of the Mind. There is also a series that goes along with the Ender's books. Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon, Shadow Puppets, Shadow of the Giant. If you are looking for Church type books read The Coming of the Lord by Gerald Lund. Mom also borrowed this one from me. You also can download the MP3 of Jesus the Christ off of lds.org for free so I am going to listen to that and read it at the same time. It is a hard read. I have started it several times. I haven't read any fiction churchy books for awhile. If you find anything good let me know!!

Jesus the Christ is SOOO good! Once you get the hang of Talmage's style of writing, it is a lot better. It has been nice to read passages again in conjunction with studying the New Testament. Way Awesome!

Another great one about understanding the Atonement is Believing Christ by Stephen Robinson. It's really short. I think I gave mom a copy for a birthday or mother's day. If not, I have a copy.

Also, Our Search for Happiness--easy read--by Elder Ballard.

Thanks for the reminder! I forgot it was January already!

Oh, and check a regular bookstore for a copy of the Book of Mormon. It may not be the replica version, but they have one (Penguin Books printed it maybe?) that is printed more like a book (I think). Better find it quick. We'll buy him a nice, leather quad if he beats us.

Good suggestions all... Chelsea I have been reading Anita Stansfield Lately. Also good nonfiction - Joseph and Emma - I have been reading that.

Believe it or not Dev I have Believing Christ and Our Search for Happiness. A bishop gave me the former and I found the other at DI and I like Ballard. We got the Book at The Deseret Book on South Temple. He said to save the money for the quad and put it in Michael's savings account.

I haven't read Jesus the Christ yet, but it is on my list of books to get. I just bought Russel M Nelson's new book I will let you know how that goes.

http://www.amazon.com/Book-Mormon-Another-Testament-Christ/dp/038551316X/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262704950&sr=8-6

This is my suggestion. This one reads much more like a book.... Not all those footnotes in the way.... Good luck!
What a great challenge! Good luck!
